Worum geht's?

Iran is not Iraq and it is definitely not Venezuela
Once again, a familiar pattern is playing out in US-Iran tensions: one side talks of diplomacy paired with threats of force. And when Washington treats the standoff as a strategy, it only makes an unstable region more dangerous and increases the odds of a wider conflict. If the stated goal is de-escalation, why keep turning the negotiating table into a launchpad confrontation?

The Islamic Republic’s already lengthy catalogue of fears has ballooned of late: alongside the possibility of being overthrown by its own citizens, it is haunted by the prospect of a full accounting of the massacres it has carried out; by the tenuous loyalty of its army, and its empty coffers; and by the shadow of Israeli spies and Islamic State militants. What terrifies Iran’s theocrats the most, the fear that eclipses all their fears, is the ability of the people at large to clearly see the essential realities of the present regime.

How Land Subsidence Reveals The Rotten Core Of The Iranian Regime – OpEd
Iran is in the midst of a silent, man-made catastrophe. The ground beneath its cities and plains is collapsing at a world-record pace, a crisis that threatens not only national infrastructure but the lives of millions of citizens. While the clerical regime blames drought and mismanagement, the evidence points to a far more sinister cause: the systematic plundering of the nation’s water resources by a powerful “water mafia” controlled by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The Next Steps For Iran After Its War With Israel
Last summer, Iran appeared to be well and truly on the march. Its chief Palestinian proxy, Hamas, had succeeded in bogging Israel down in a costly ground war in Gaza – and turning global public opinion against the Jewish state in the process. The United States, under the Biden administration, didn’t appear to have much of an answer to Iran’s persistent pursuit of nuclear status, or to the growing regional threat posed by its other proxies, like Yemen’s Houthi rebels. And vulnerable Gulf states, acutely aware of this dynamic, were increasingly seeking some sort of accommodation with Tehran. As a result, the Iranian leadership’s strategic ambitions had begun to expand dramatically.

Golineh Atai
Narges Mohammadi
White Torture (EN)
Iranian prisons systematically violate human rights. In White Torture, fourteen women, including Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, share their experiences of imprisonment: harassment and beatings by guards, total blindfolding and denial of medical treatment. Angry interrogators threaten their families and lie about their whereabouts. One prisoner is even told she is dead. None of the women have committed crimes – they are prisoners of conscience or held hostage as bargaining chips. Through torture, the Iranian state hopes to remake their souls. These interviews, carried out by Narges Mohammadi while each woman was in prison or facing charges, are astounding documents of resistance and integrity.
